The School of Computer Science held its 4th Regional Secondary School Programming Competition on Friday, November 23, 2007 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, followed by an Awards Ceremony at 5:00 pm. This event has grown considerably since its inception with participation of over 100 students.
The students attended two training workshops prior to the competition on October 19th and November 2nd led by Dr. Ziad Kobti and Doctoral Student, Denton Cockburn. Their Java programming skills were tested in the 3 hour competition. First and Second place were awarded to Vincent Massey Secondary School teams, led by Coach Mr. Ron McKenzie. The first placing team actually solved all of the problems within one hour. Mrs. Pat Piccinin's St. Joseph students were awarded third place in the competition.
Nineteen competing and two reserve teams from the tri-county area were attended in this event. The School of Computer Science gives thanks to all volunteers who assisted us and those who gave of their valuable time.
